All going well.
Running 3 out of 5 days. Running going well .. forinstance, there’s one particular short run I do that I enjoy that I’m so comfortable with that I’ve now tacked on an extra mile or so.
Climbing two nights. Bouldering once. Climbing still weak compared to last year but I’ll look into that when my weight has come down some more and I’ve got the old endurance training out of the way. I meet up with an old mate, Rhys, on Tuesday evening at the Swindon Link Centre - great to be climbing and chatting with him again
By Wednesday I felt like I was low on energy. Kind of how you feel when your about to get a cold. I’m currently on a diet so reckon that’s conflicting with the exercise. Just one more week to go on the diet and then I think I’ll be eating a bit more.
Anyway the diet appears to be working, I’m now down to 13 stone and 6lbs .. not bad going from the 14 stone and 4lbs that I peaked at just after New Year.

I’ve been putting off sampling AJAX technics via ASP.NET until M$ appears to have the technology stabilised .. and it looks like that has now happened. So it may well be time for me to dive in and try it out.

.. I’ve managed to go for a 2-5 mile run during my work lunchbreak for the last 10 working days
It’s a record! We’ll see how long I stick it .. I reckon in a week or so I’ll be tempted to switch back to bouldering down at the climbing wall but we’ll see.
First I need to get a bit fitter and lose some weight.
.. 10 days x approx 3 miles = as far as a marathon (and a bit).
Went climbing on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
Thursday esp. went great .. I’ve backed off trying to push my grades, instead concentrating on just endurance training and getting my head back together. Basically after the rubbish climb last Thursday I was determined to have a re-think about what was going on with my climbing and get positive again .. and it worked. On Thursday I was climbing easier routes better than I can remember ever doing them before.
So although my ability to climb the hardest routes is down on last year (lack of strength in my fingers and a power-to-weight ratio right down) my technique lower down the grades is actually better
Will do this for the next 2-3 weeks and then switch to another training regime, possibly hitting the bouldering room for the first time this year.
It’s good to be enjoying the climbing again and having a more positive outlook on the year.
Also I’ve run 3-4 miles every working day this week .. that takes up my running (ha!) total to 8 days on the trot (ha again!).
Weight is down approx. 4-5 lbs over the last two weeks .. excellent. Just another 7-8lbs to go and I’ll be very happy.
Last week was my first back to work after the Christmas and New Year Holidays. I managed to go climbing once and running 3 times.
Not a bad start to the year.
Just one New Years resolution: I will attempt to run or climb every working day this year. 4 days and counting ..

It’s been a very reliable workhorse .. 100,000 miles in 6 years and the only thing that went wrong was a part on the water pump about 10,000 miles ago and an engine sensor ages ago.
But it was starting to act it’s age (12 years old) and I no longer felt comfortable driving it. So it had to go.
I still prefer it’s interior to the ones you find in modern cars. sniff.
I’ve put on a stone in weight since I went rock climbing last October!
Aaaaggghhh!
No wonder I’m having trouble getting up the climbing wall.
