Training Last Week

Filed under: Push Bikes, Rock Climbing, Training — Dax++ @ 10:38 am

Cycled 40 miles last week (after repairing the headstock) all with lovely weather.

Climbed at the Link on Tuesday .. managed awesome stamina session. Started with 45 minutes of bouldering without putting my foot on the floor! Then approx 3 hours of climbing. Then finished off bouldering again upto the 4 hour mark (just under).

Didn’t climb on Thursday (inlaws over visiting).

Eating and drinking has been all over the place .. not good.

My Rockhopper has seized

Filed under: Push Bikes — Dax++ @ 10:38 am

It’s headstock has seized up .. will need taking apart and fixing. Not sure what this entails just yet but hoping it’s just a case of greasing the ball bearings.

So busy at work aven’t got time to do it yet .. but the weather is so bad it’s not like I’m cycling anywhere.

Training Last Week

Filed under: Push Bikes, Rock Climbing, Training — Dax++ @ 4:45 pm

The other week I managed to get my eating wrong so that on a 20 mile cycle route I totally ran out of energy and hit an energy brickwall with about 4-5 miles to go. Got so bad I had to stop every 500m or so to stop and eat blackberries. It did the trick .. just enough to get me home :-)

Last week cycled just the once (40 miles) due to weather (lots of flooding) and work (just lots of).

Managed to get down to the Link on Tuesday and Thursday but late getting there both evenings. Still, went bouldering after everyone else stopped climbing .. leaving the bouldering area at about 9:45pm each time. I’m just trying to make sure I get the miles in .. less concerned with the out right grade .. just got to keep climbing. Even if it means using the biggest holds going. I do spice it up every 10-15 minutes by doing an overhanging traverse or a tricky problem but try to always keep climbing. Reckon I can go about 30 minutes without feet touching the floor.

During the actual leading I managed to get up 6a, 6a+ routes and a 6b (had to rest below the crux - plan to red point it next week) route. Failed on the white, main overhang 6b route .. same as last week. Just too weak to pull on the one hold while reachig for the first of the small holds.

No other training .. too busy with work. Not enough sleep. And it’s still raining.

Training Last Week

.. not good, cos although the weather was fine and dry I was unable to find anyone to climb with! (also working later than normal so not worth driving ages to check out the bouldering .. just couldn’t be motivated to do that .. too far, too expensive).

Instead, went down to the Link on Tuesday and Thursday. Did a fair bit of leading and then went bananas bouldering/traversing afterwards. Stayed till 10pm (approx 3 1/2 hrs) .. just getting the miles in, trying to up my arms/finger stamina. Will keep doing this .. want to see how far it’ll take me. Just please, pretty please, don’t let me get injured during the Winter training season. So once again I’m going into the training season miles fitter than the previous year .. so as long as the injuries don’t stop play then, once again, I’m quietly optimistic that I can keep on improving .. that’s gotta be good :-)

Also managed to get 80 miles of cycling in too (Monday was a Bank holiday so not bad really). I’ve decided to try and do as many miles cycling per week possible and worry less about my diet - I’ll just eat and not worry too much about the calories. I’m aiming to go from 80 miles a week to 120. Then, once my body has gotten used to the distances involved, I’ll start to pay more attention to the food I’m eating and try to cut back if (ha!) I’ve gotten a bit carried away with the food.
